Biden, De Niro targeted by explosive devices
A law enforcement official says a suspicious package has been intercepted addressed to former VP Joe Biden. A New York City police bomb squad has also recovered a suspicious package addressed to Robert De Niro. (Oct. 25)
Robert De Niro, who has outwardly expressed his disdain for President Trump, was the target of a suspicious package, according to the FBI. A delivery was sent to the building that houses the Tribeca Grill, a restaurant started by the Academy Award-winning actor and his Tribeca Film Center, police say.
De Niro has made his aversion to Trump quite clear, admitting he’d “like to punch him in the face” and giving him multiple tongue lashings.
“At approximately 4 a.m. police received responded to a call about a suspicious package at 375 Greenwich,” Jerry Varson with the New York Police Department confirmed to USA TODAY Thursday morning.
The FBI confirmed a package was addressed to De Niro via its official Twitter account.
USA TODAY reached out to De Niro’s rep, Stan Rosenfield, for comment, who issued a statement from a spokesperson for Tribeca Enterprises, established by De Niro and others.
“A suspicious package was received. We called the police. They took it out and went through all safety procedures,” the statement reads. “It was addressed to Robert De Niro and is similar packaging to the others. It is an open investigation. Everyone is safe and the building is open.”
Rosenfield also said De Niro “is not making any statement at this time.”
A series of devices discovered throughout the day Wednesday, which included pipe bombs, were sent to prominent Democrats and across the country and to CNN’s New York office. Former President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton received threats. Packages were also sent to Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, liberal philanthropist George Soros and California Democratic Congresswoman Maxine Waters.
All have drawn the ire of Trump and each has made their way into his speeches and Twitter feed over the years.
De Niro, in particular, hasn’t been shy about sharing his thoughts about the president.

Scott Holtzman def. Alan Patrick at UFC 229: Best photos
LAS VEGAS – Scott Holtzman (12-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) now owns a three-fight winning streak after using vicious elbows to knock out a game Alan Patrick (15-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC).
The lightweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC 229 event at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. It aired on FS1 following additional prelims on UFC Fight Pass and ahead of the main card on pay-per-view.
Holtzman looked the sharper striker at the start of the contest, pushing his opponent to the cage with powerful kicks and punches. Patrick tried to answer with speed and movement, using angles to land strikes from the outside. Holtzman loaded up on several big haymakers as he advanced but struggled to found the mark. His kicks, however, did continue to land clean. Patrick’s striking did open a small cut by Holtzman’s left eye, and blood trickled down his face in the closing minute. However, a perfectly timed low kick swept Patrick to the floor, and Holtzman happily jumped on top.
Patrick did his best to tie things up from bottom position, but Holtzman did sneak in a few big punches before the bell, though he was nearly surprised by an acrobatic upkick from the floor just before the bell.
In the second, Patrick tried to toss out several acrobatic attacks, but Holtzman evaded well and returned fire. Holtzman was the man moving forward, thought he was forced to respect his opponent firing the advances. Holtzman eventually was able to push inside and drag Patrick to his back, landing a few punches before being forced to escape an attack on his legs. Once he spun free, Holtzman settled back into his opponent’s guard and landed a huge elbow before Patrick was able to scramble back to his feet, where they exchanged strikes until the bell.
Patrick was energized to start the third, rushing forward and looking to strike. Holtzman handled the initial charge well, answering with a big right hand. Patrick switched stances and looked for an opening, eventually landing a few clean left hands. However, Holtzman absorbed them well and found a home for a few right hands of his own, including one that sent his foe to the floor. Holtzman hopped on top and tried to finish with punches but wisely paused to establish firm position on top when his opponent recovered.
Patrick was lively from his back, looking for options to regain some momentum. But Holtzman was able to push his advances aside and work back to mount before delivering a few crushing ground-and-pound blows that left Patrick out cold at the 3:42 mark of the final round.

JAMMU: Arun Singh Charak, the Wushu coach of 17-year-old Riya Chib who won Gold medal in the 63rd National Wushu Championship held at Guwahati last week, might be swelling with pride today, even as he is battling with a cancerous tumour.
His disciple, an 11th standard student, Riya Chib, daughter of Surjeet Singh Chib of Muthi, bagged Gold in U-19 Girls event at 63rd National School Games 2017-18 in 65 Kg weight category.
Riya practises at the Fight Club Jammu owned by Arun Singh Charak where more than 50 other aspiring Wushu Champions practice every day.
Riya credited her coach, Arun Charak for the achievement.
She said, “I started practicing for Wushu at the age of 11 at Jammu’s Parade Ground. Then I came to know about Charak Sir who has to his credit an international award and one Sher-e-Kashmir award in Wushu Championship and accordingly started practicing under him.” “Last year, I got a chance to represent the state at the Under-17 National Junior Wushu Championship held at Pune but had to return empty-handed,” she said.
Riya said, “My hard work under my coach, Charak Sir, paid me back this year and I am very happy on this achievement. My dream is to represent the state in international championships and win more gold medals for the state.”
As greater than Riya’s, is the story of her coach, Charak, who was more joyous than Riya, as he saw his dreams come true in his disciple’s win.
Charak is suffering from brain tumour after sustaining injuries during a competition in Ranchi, Chattisgarh while he was playing for the state. “After the injury, I got a seizure and after some days, I started getting repeated seizures. On getting the doctors consulted, I got to know that a tumour had developed in my head-portion,” Charak said.He said, “However the news of tumour left me shattered, but I didn’t want to quit Wushu. Having limited options with me to treat the tumour, I sought help of some of my philanthropist friends and help started coming to my doors in the form of cheques and cash.”
Charak said he didn’t get any help from Jammu and Kashmir government.
“With whatever I had received from my friends, I started looking for options to treat the tumour at Delhi, Gurugram and J&K. I didn’t stop playing and coaching the young Wushu players in the meantime.”
“I am still under-treatment. The victory of Riya has literally made me a proud coach today. Now onwards, I will double my hard work to train other players to ensure their win in such events irrespective of my deteriorating health,” he added.

Following which, the actor suffered a few setbacks as far as films were concerned between 1992-93.
In 1994, Salman Khan was again back as the lovable Prem in yet another Sooraj Barjatya film – ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun..!’. Salman Khan romanced the very beautiful Madhuri Dixit. The film went on to become of Bollywood’s biggest hits and was declared a blockbuster. It won three Filmfare Awards for Best film, Best Director and Best Actress. It also won the National Award for being the Most Popular Film of the year. Salman Khan next teamed up with Shah Rukh Khan for Rakesh Roshan’s ‘Karan Arjun’ in 1995. SRK and Salman played brothers who are reincarnated after being killed by enemies. The film earned Salman yet another Filmfare nomination for Best Actor.

It did very well at the box office, receiving a blockbuster verdict. Year 2009 was a mixed year for Salman Khan. His first film Prabhu Dheva’s ‘Wanted’ with Ayesha Takia and Prakash Raj was the second-highest grossing movie of the year and was declared a superhit. He next appeared in ‘Main Aur Mrs Khanna’ and ‘London Dreams’. The former was a commercial failure, while the later was moderately successful. This was a very lean phase for Salman. And the bad phase continued with films like Veer, which released in 2010, it was a commercial and critical disaster. But it was ‘Dabangg’ that brought Salman Khan back into action. Everyone fell in love with his character Robinhood ‘Chulbul Pandey’. The film was a major commercial success with a worldwide gross of Rs 2.3 billion (US$35 million) and was declared a blockbuster by Box Office India.
Salman Khan then romanced good friend Kareena Kapoor onscreen in ‘Bodyguard’, a remake of a Malayalam film by the same name. The film received mixed reviews but was a financial success, becoming the highest earning film of the year. In 2012 Salman Khan played the role of a RAW agent in Kabir Khan’s ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ along with his ex-girlfriend Katrina Kaif. Though the film received mixed reviews from critics, it was one of the most successful of Yash Raj film releases and was declared a blockbuster. It became the third highest-grossing Bollywood film of all time, exceeded by ‘Chennai Express’ and ‘3 Idiots’. Salman’s second release that year was ‘Dabangg 2, where he reprised the role of Chulbul Pandey. This film too received mixed reviews, but his beloved fans were quite clear – they loved the film. ‘Dabangg 2’ was declared a blockbuster as well and a superhit overseas.
In 2014, Salman Khan had two releases – first being ‘Jai Ho’ along with actress Tabu and newcomer Daisy Shah. Salman played the role of an army officer in the film, which was inspired from ‘Pay It Forward’. Unfortunately, it did not open well and was declared a semi hit. His next second release of the year, ‘Kick’ along with Jacqueline Fernandez, Randeep Hooda and Nawazuddin Siddiqui broke several domestic box-office records. Kick, which was an Eid release this year, went on to become the second highest grossing Bollywood film of all time.
Not only has Salman graced the big screen, but has a successful career on the small screen as well. He has been hosting the reality show ‘Bigg Boss’ since the fourth season. He has also hosted the second season of ‘10 Ka Dum’ in year 2009 which turned out to be even more successful than his first season as host of the game show in year 2008.
Coming back to his personal life, Salman Khan has undoubtedly had his own share of romance. Salman Khan’s sister Alvira is said to have fixed him up with Sangeeta Bijlani after her Miss India win in 1980. The duo parted ways in 90’s but are known to share a special friendship. Salman Khan was then known to be dating Somy Ali who he met through a common friend in 1993. However, rumors suggest that Somi was not too fond of Salman’s drinking and aggressive behaviour. She split from the actor in 1999. Salman Khan was then linked to none other than former Miss World Aishwarya Rai. Their love story is one of the most-talked about and memorable one till date. The 21-year-old Aishwarya Rai fell for Salman during the shooting of their film ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ in 1999. However, after their split in March 2002, Aishwarya accused Salman Khan of beating her harassing her and her family filed a police complaint against him. There were also reports that Salman used to physically abuse Aishwarya. The two have never worked with each other till date. He was then rumoured to have found love in Aishwarya-look-alike Sneha Ullal. But their relationship soon fizzled out. Next, came Salman’s much talked-about flame, Katrina Kaif. Though the duo never admitted to their relationship, Katrina was known to be very close to the Khan family as well. But they ended things in 2010 and continue to be friends, even co-starring in ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ after their breakup. She was one of the star guests at Arpita Khan’s wedding. Katrina is now dating Ranbir Kapoor.
Following his breakup with Katrina, Salman has a string of affairs to his name – German model Claudia Ciesla, Zareen Khan, Mahek Chahel and Hazel Keech. His latest rumoured flame is Romanian actress Lulia Vantur. The anchor-actress has been spotted with Khan in India last year and Salman too made a trip to Romania to visit her. She was also very much a part of Salman’s sister Arpita’s wedding day. In 2006, Salman was sentenced to one year in prison for hunting the Chinkara, an endangered species. Later that year, he was handed a five-year jail term and remanded to Jodhpur jail until 13 April when he was granted bail. Salman has supported a number of charities during his career. He started an NGO called Being Human which is a charitable trust founded for supporting and aiding the under-privileged. Khan is currently busy shooting for two films – Sooraj Barjatya’s ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ opposite Sonam Kapoor, where he will be seen playing the role of Prem/Vijay. The next upcoming film is Kabir Khan’s ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ with Kareena Kapoor. Both films are scheduled for a 2015 release.
